From my Flickr page. Can't believe it's been almost a year.

I love this. I try to visit synagogues everywhere I go. I have a lot of photos of them too. I found the old and abandoned ones in remote corners of Moldova for example to be fascinating. And they were so beautiful. Unfortunately many of them are abandoned and crumbling roofless these days (others re just empty and locked up). But you can still see how grand they were in their hey day and can almost feel how vibrant the Jewish life must have been there just walking around them.

In Romania we saw many of them abandoned too. We were told that there was a volunteer group from Germany who used to find them, get in and reclaim and catalogue all the stuff still inside them, like old letters, documents, books and photographs that have been there for many decodes untouched and unseen. Some of the stuff turned out to be very interesting.
