Continuity

I just came across, and finally answered, a six-month-old email from a distant relative who'd found my family history site and wanted information about a mutual ancestor.

I have several boxes of family memorabilia, most of which remain packed away and buried amid the chaos of moving. But I'm going to try to dig them out this week, especially with Bunny coming soon. I think it's important for young people to have a sense of continuity and of their relationship with those who have come before.

Learning about my own parents' lives, their background, and the world lived in has helped me keep a sense of perspective around my own role as a parent. It gives me a lot of respect for the past, but also for the future, as I am keenly aware of how I will be remembered - for better or worse - by those that I've helped to raise.

Shabbat shalom.
