The Rig Is Up

So, I finally figured out how to attach the shock mount to the mike boom. (The connectors are different sizes, so I had to take apart the regular mike mount and unscrew the little fitting; then I used the fitting to join the shock mount to the boom.) I'm still waiting on the extra length of mike cable to connect the microphone to the external power supply - but it's usable without the external power.

The Audition software is really easy to use - even for a novice like me - and after a few test tracks I was ready to start making a practice recording.

The piece I'm starting with is a 4200-word fantasy story involving angels, demons, and a young boy who has to save the world. (I got it on Kindle so I won't have to deal with the noise of the pages turning.) It's about 1/2 hour to read. Tomorrow I'm going to do a couple of practice reads all the way through, and play around with the editing to see if I can get it sounding decent. That mike cable should be arriving tomorrow, and my acoustic foam ought to be here by the end of the week. If all goes well, I'm hoping to be able to submit an audition sample to the author by Friday - provided somebody else hasn't grabbed it by then. Otherwise, I'll just pick a new piece.
