2021-01-25 Monday morning

It's been a little while since I updated. I took last week mostly off from social media. Started a new job last Monday and have been getting settled in. It's similar to what I was doing before - tech support, fully work-from-home - but the pay is a little better and the work is slightly less technically intensive. So it's looking like a good step for me.

I have been making it a point to spend at least a couple of hours offline every day. I'm using the time to catch up on reading (as in, actual books). I have been renewing my acquaintance with Borges and Octavio Paz, and I feel like my Spanish is getting up to speed.

I'll be catching up on journals and comments shortly.

As a young person, 'Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius' captivated me because I found the Middle Earth -like quality of the imagined world enchanting. In maturity, and having lived through (and still living through) many of the exact processes Borges is describing, I now understand why he conceived it as a horror story.
