Via Rudaw: German defense minister arrives in Erbil

'German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Erbil Monday evening after several meetings with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad the same day, reports Rudaw’s Sangar Abdulrahman at the Erbil International Airport.'

This is good news. Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdish region, with its capital at Erbil, has been one of the few fighting forces to prove effective in holding back Daesh (Islamic State) in the region. The article adds: 'Rudaw has learned that 100 German advisers have trained 1,000 Peshmerga. Germany has handed over military aid worth $77 million to the Kurdistan region, including 30 MILAN missile launchers with 500 missiles.'
