Monday evening: range day, preparing for the future.

I shot 300 rounds of 9mm at Threat Dynamics today - that's probably more than I would normally shoot in a single session (ammo costs money, plus I start to get fatigued and rush through my shots) but it's been a couple of weeks since I was last at the range and it may be a few more before I get to go again. It wasn't my best day of shooting, but the practice was good. Here's my best group from 10 yards:

I leave this weekend for California, where I'll be going to EMT school for two weeks and then spending a few days seeing the kids. Then back to Portland to get ready for my trip to Africa.

I am looking forward to EMT school because it'll give me a new set of career options in the job market, and because I've been wanting to learn some basic medical / lifesaving skills anyway. The odds are slim that I'll ever have to defend myself with a gun, G-d forbid, but everybody gets hurt. I don't ever want to be in a situation where somebody is badly injured or having a heart attack and I'm standing around helplessly not knowing what to do. And honestly, the future is uncertain - who knows what the coming years may bring, or if emergency care will continue to be as accessible as we've gotten used to. Anyway, I'd much rather know basic lifesaving skills than not know them.

Being busy is good, and I'm excited about these projects, but I am really looking forward to getting into a normal routine.
