The Etruscan language.

Apparently, they finally cracked Etruscan with brute-force decryption. Impressive.

This explains the mismatch between the sounds of Greek alphabet and the Latin alphabet that was supposedly borrowed from it - why would Latin be missing a letter for the 'G' sound (originally) if Greek had one? Answer: because the Latin alphabet came by way of Etruscan, not directly from Greek.
