San Diego synagogue shooting.

An armed attacker entered a Chabad synagogue in Poway, near San Diego, California, on the Sabbath and last day of Passover, and killed 60-year-old Lori Gilbert-Kaye while injuring 3 more. The suspect is identified as 19-year-old John T. Earnest. Even after being shot and wounded, Rabbi Goldstein stood before his congregation and said “We are strong. We are united. They can’t break us.”

'Multiple people were injured Saturday in a shooting at the Chabad of Poway synagogue.

Poway is approximately 20 miles north of San Diego.

The attack occurred at just prior to 11:30 a.m. local time.

All four of the patients were sent to the Palomar Medical Center.

The Daily Beast reported that two children were among those wounded in the shooting. Poway Mayor Steve Vaus told CNN that at least one person was killed in the attack.'

'The shooter claims in the Q-and-A section to eschew political ideology, saying he does not support Donald Trump because of his support for Israel.'

I haven't been to the Chabad in Poway. I was active in the San Diego Jewish community some 25+ years ago, when I was stationed at Camp Pendleton in the Marines. I don't live in California anymore, but I am glad I live in a jurisdiction where I can concealed-carry to shul.

'

Witnesses said a rabbi is among the injured, reportedly shot in the hand. He apparently continued with his sermon after being wounded, telling people to stay strong.

“One message from all of us in our congregation is that we are standing together. We are getting stronger,” Anvari said. “Never again. You can’t break us. We are strong.” ...'

Lori Gilbert-Kaye remembered:

'Lori you were a jewel of our community a true Eshet Chayil, a Woman of Valor. You were always running to do a mitzvah (good deed) and generously gave tzedaka (charity) to everyone. Your final good deed was jumping in front of Rabbi Mendel Goldstein to take the bullet and save his life. ...'
